Multifunctional display OBP60 V2

First of all, a few important notes that you should definitely pay attention to.

A revised version of the OBP60 has been available since 2025. The main reason for the revision was to simplify and automate the production of the electronics using SMD technology. The old version used several DIY modules, and the manual effort involved in production was very high. The goal was to have the electronics manufactured by service providers, so that interested parties could purchase the fully assembled, programmed, and tested circuit board for the OBP60, making replicating it much easier. Currently, no circuit boards are being sold, only finished devices, so that errors can be identified in advance for a later production process. Once this phase is completed, circuit boards will also be available through Open Boat Projects.

The first pilot series of 25 devices is currently in practical use and must prove itself in everyday boating. A few issues have arisen that still need to be resolved. The majority of the problems have now been identified, and solutions have been found. One of the biggest problems was the e-paper display, which had to be replaced with a different model after it was discontinued. Unfortunately, it is not as suitable for use in direct sunlight as the display of the old OBP60 V1. After endless tests and trials, a display type was found that achieves nearly as good results. A revised version of the OBP60 is planned for a further small series. The detailed development history can be followed in the Sailing Forum under the OPB60 section.

The firmware for the OBP60 V2 is now fully developed and has achieved a considerable range of functions. Thanks to the excellent online documentation, many supporters have been found to expand the firmware. Five people are now regularly working on software and hardware enhancements.
